Aravis is a venture capital organisation investing in highly promising companies in the fields of life sciences and renewable energy. Since 1995, the Aravis team has invested over $600 million in more than 80 companies, of which several have since been sold to leading industry players. Aravis' investment strategy in life sciences has been to invest in European, Asian and North American early stage biopharmaceutical, medical technology and biotechnology companies. More recently, Aravis has broadened this approach with a new fund (Energy I LP) focused on European renewable energy businesses.
Life Sciences
Aravis currently has two life science investment funds: ARAVIS Biotech I and ARAVIS Biotech II. The Aravis team has been active in Switzerland since 1996 as an early investor in companies such as Modex, Genedata, Cytos, Glycart, Esbatech and Novimmune. Since 2001 Aravis has also included cross border transactions, for example the relocation of Evolva from Copenhagen to the Basel Area or the foundation of Telormedix in Lugano from technology spun out of the University of California San Diego. In all these transactions Aravis usually structured and led the financing rounds. As a result Aravis partners have usually taken board seats in these companies. Aravis has built up strong ties with the VC community elsewhere in Continental Europe, Asia and the West Coast of the USA and has been able to build strong financing syndicates with funds in each of these locations.
Renewable Energy
Aravis management team founded the first ever limited partnership in Switzerland - Aravis ENERGY I LP. The investment focus lies on the development of renewable energy infrastructure companies. Aravis ENERGY I LP has a clearly distinctive business model. The Aravis team has demonstrated its ability to attract, syndicate and structure such complex projects.
